Cloud is designed to be both a functional plant care system and a statement art piece in your living space. With its aesthetic design, Cloud automatically rains water and provides light for your indoor plants to keep them growing greener.

problem

Plants bring life to a living space but are often difficult to care for, especially with a busy lifestyle.

The existing plant care devices that provide water and grow lights often lack in their physical appeal and detract from the natural beauty of plants.

solution

Cloud started with inspiration from the natural world, where the clouds and sun provide water and light to all plants of the world.

The initial sketch of Cloud took several iterations to perfect. It needed just enough cloud puffs to make it seem fluffy but not so many that it distracted from the minimal look I was going for. Each of the iterations involved different puff sizes and sun positions, finally settling on this sketched design.

The vision for Cloud also included a sun. Aiming to resemble the natural sun peeking out from behind a cloud, I designed the sun to be 1 inch narrower than the cloud piece. This would create a .5 inch setback on either side of Cloud and a "peeking out” look from both sides.

To represent the grow lights, the prototype used miniature lights organized by 1 inch rows on the bottom of Cloud. This sketch highlights the layout of the wiring between the battery pack, around the base, and up through a small cutout into the sun.

To allow water to fall through the base like rain, a total of 30 holes were drilled into the bottom, each spaced 1 inch apart. The fairy lights were then glued into place in a 3 x 5 arrangement in-between the rain holes.

To create the curved sides of Cloud, the foam board was scored through half its thickness at 1 inch increments and bent into shape.
